Disclaimer
§1 Estimates, Not Advice
Calculator outputs on evbreakeven.com are estimates based on inputs you supply and on default seed data (electricity rates, gasoline prices, vehicle MSRPs, federal and state incentive amounts). They are not tax advice, financial advice, legal advice, accounting advice, engineering advice, or vehicle-purchase recommendations. They do not establish a professional relationship of any kind between you and Indraprastha Publications.
§2 Federal Tax Credit Eligibility
The federal Section 30D (new) and Section 25E (used) clean vehicle credits, and the Section 30C alternative-fuel refueling property credit, are administered by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. Eligibility is determined by the IRS, not by us. Our Federal EV Tax Credit Eligibility Checker applies the publicly stated income, MSRP, and sourcing tests; it does not validate VIN-level battery sourcing, dealer registration status, or your specific tax situation. Verify final eligibility with a qualified tax professional and primary IRS sources before relying on a credit for a purchase decision.
§3 State and Utility Incentives
State, utility, and municipal incentive programs change frequently. Programs are funded annually and can be paused, modified, or closed without prior notice. Eligibility windows, MSRP caps, and income caps shown on this Site reflect the data verification date stamped on each page; verify current status with the program administrator before purchasing. The presence of a program in our incentive table is not a guarantee that the program is currently accepting applications or that you qualify.
§4 Electricity and Gasoline Rates
Electricity rates default to U.S. EIA monthly residential averages by state. Gasoline prices default to U.S. EIA weekly retail averages for regular grade. Your actual rates and prices vary by utility, time of use, and local fuel market. Use the calculator inputs to override defaults with your own current values.
§5 Vehicle Specifications
Vehicle MSRPs, EPA-rated efficiency, range, and battery capacity reflect manufacturer specifications and EPA listings as of the data verification date stamped on each page. Specifications can change between model years and trims. Dealer pricing varies. Verify with the manufacturer and your dealer before relying on these figures for a purchase decision.
§6 What Calculators Exclude
Per published methodology, our calculators exclude the following from the break-even calculation: financing costs (loan APR, term, monthly amortization), maintenance differential between EV and ICE, insurance premium differential, and resale-value differential. Each is large enough that bundling it into a single "break-even year" would create false precision. Account for these separately when making a purchase decision. See each calculator's methodology page for the complete exclusion list.
§7 Range and Charging Reality
EPA-rated range is a standardized figure. Real-world range varies materially by temperature, speed, terrain, payload, HVAC use, and battery age. Public charging speeds vary by station condition, vehicle charging curve, and battery state of charge. Plan range and charging conservatively for unfamiliar routes.
§8 Third-Party Information
The Site links to and references third-party sources including IRS.gov, EIA, fueleconomy.gov, DSIRE, vehicle manufacturers, and state energy offices. We do not control and are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or current availability of third-party content. Always verify with the primary source.
§9 No Warranty
The Site, its calculators, and its data are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. See Terms of Service §9.
§10 No Liability for Decisions Based on Calculator Output
Indraprastha is not liable for any loss, cost, or damage you incur in reliance on calculator output, incentive figures, vehicle data, or editorial content on the Site. See Terms of Service §10 for the contractual liability cap.
